Looks and Feel
This low-spin model has a smaller head compared to the Max models in the Ai Smoke range, which may not boost confidence but appeals to faster swingers and looks great. The Triple Diamond model skips an alignment aid on the crown, catering to golfers who prefer a clean look, but I missed having one. The Forged Carbon pattern is more noticeable, with a bold black, grey, and slight blue color scheme.
In terms of feel, initial thoughts on low-spin drivers were mixed. Shots tended to spin right, but once adjusted, it became manageable. The Triple Diamond was initially challenging to control, but with more speed, the feel on well-struck, lower shots were exceptional, though not consistent for every swing.
Performance
If you’re someone who consistently hits at high speeds, our 2024 test data shows that the TD is an excellent low-spin driver. With a carry distance of 276 yards, it’s just one yard shy of being the longest, making it our test pro’s second-longest low-spin driver in 2024. Unlike the slightly longer Titleist TSR4, the TD is deemed playable on the golf course, offering a good balance of launch, flight, and spin.
When we moved the 14g weight from the backport to the front, we reduced the backspin by 203 RPM. However, this also lowered launch by 1 degree, shot height by 6 yards, and descent angle by 4.7 degrees. This adjustment might make the model almost unplayable for Neil unless he exclusively plays links golf and prefers significantly lower-flight shots that run out.
Choosing Your Ai-Smoke Driver……
If your swing speed falls between 75 and 90 mph, considered slow to average, and your shots tend to scatter from low heel to high toe with a down-to-back attack angle, consider the Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max D for fighting a slice or the Max Fast for additional speed.
For the majority of golfers, the Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max is the core driver model. Aimed at those with a slightly higher impact location on the face and shots grouped more tightly, this suits players with a slightly down to a little up attack angle and mid-speed (90 – 100 mph) who might have a fade as a stock shot.
If you have a higher swing speed of 105 – 120+ mph, your shots are likely to be tightly grouped around the center of the face, and your attack angle is up onto the back of the ball with a more neutral path, the Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond is likely the best fit for you.
Callaway Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond Driver Review
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping various aspects of our lives, including the design of golf equipment. Callaway’s dedication to integrating AI is evident in the Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver. The new 2024 driver range introduces the Ai Smart Face technology, enhancing sweet spots for consistent ball speed and distance across the clubface.
To reduce crown weight, the 360-degree Carbon Chassis is now 15% lighter, leading to improved forgiveness and launch conditions. A notable change from the 2023 models is the omission of Jailbreak technology, as Callaway believes reallocating the extra weight throughout the clubface provides greater benefits.
The Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver features a neutral-to-fade bias, a compact head size, and a movable 14g weight for players to customize speeds and spin rates.
Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver Review [Pros & Cons]
PROS
- Clever Smart Face concept for customized play.
- Four models in the Ai-Smoke family cater to various preferences.
- Stylish, fast, and pleasant-sounding driver.
- Exceptional feel on well-struck shots.
- Provides more distance than max and max d models.
- Affordable compared to last year’s paradym drivers.
CONS
- Least forgiving in the Ai-Smoke family.
- Requires a higher swing speed for optimal results.
Value for the money
Overall, this club could be an excellent choice if you have the ball speeds for a low-spin model. With a price tag of Cheak Price, it’s a significant investment, although cheaper than last year’s driver. If you held off last year and are in the market for a low-spin driver, this could be good news for you.
FQAs
What does “Triple Diamond” mean for Callaway?
Answer: The Triple Diamond is designed to have more spin and a greater tendency for a fade compared to the standard Sub Zero. I tested both in the Flash SZ last season, and the Triple Diamond consistently went at least 10 yards more to the right (showing a fade bias) with equal strikes.
Is the Triple Diamond driver forgiving?
Answer: The Paradym Triple Diamond driver offers less forgiveness on off-center hits compared to other drivers. Nevertheless, it remains a playable club suitable for golfers with average swing speeds. It’s worth noting that the driver features a low launch angle, which may be optimal for specific golfers.
Final verdict
You consistently hit drivers like Jon Rahm, you’ll appreciate the unforgiving appearance of the TD at the address. This setup aligns with what the best players in the world prefer. For average golfers like me, having an alignment aid on the top edge would be preferable. The carbon fiber weave on the crown is bold and attention-grabbing, but I can’t deny the model’s speed and power if it suits your game perfectly.
If I could hit the ball with enough speed for a perfect strike every time, enjoying that low, powerful ball flight, I couldn’t find any faults with this club. However, in the unpredictable world of golf, I didn’t experience the same level of consistency with the Triple Diamond.
The “offline” shots weren’t as drastic as expected from a low-spin model but compared to the remarkable forgiveness and reliability of the Max, the Triple Diamond stood out.
